In the final hours before it was to be painted over, Foster the People received word from the office of Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti that their "Supermodel" mural would not be covered up as scheduled yesterday, only six months after its creation. After a Los Angeles Times story spread word of the mural’s impending removal last Friday, a fan named Johanna Maria started a Change.org petition that was signed nearly 12,000 times over the weekend and caught the attention of Garcetti’s office. Garcetti was able to intervene and preserve the mural, the band learned late Sunday night.
