If the music itself sounds wonderfully modern, though, it’s because she’s pushing her sound past the parameters of the classic French chanson: Her quick, rap-inspired vocals on “Saint Claude” were motivated by a love for Kendrick Lamar, and the new remix by Domenico Torti was made expressly to let “Saint Claude” be a song that “we can all dance to.” An embrace of the contemporary has led her to opening slots for the likes of Lykke Li and a bilingual ability makes the prospect of crossing over to the U.S. a real possibility. But, first and foremost, she’ll always have France: a string of tour dates in her home country this summer is capped off with two big Paris shows, both of which sold out in a matter of two days.
