After the documentary Makers: Women Who Make America debuted to acclaim last year, PBS is now releasing six new Makers episodes, beginning this week, each of which focuses on various fields—from space to Hollywood to politics—in which women have managed to break ground. Executive producer Dyllan McGee came up with the idea for the series after asking Gloria Steinem if she could make a short film about her life. “She told me, ‘You can’t tell the story of the women’s movement through the eyes of one person,’” McGee says of Steinem. Eventually McGee took the advice and, over the past few years, has interviewed more than 275 women from all over the world in all sorts of careers. “I have the best job,” she says. “I just get to talk to all these incredibly interesting women.”
