Today was a show of Kenyan dominance and athletic prowess in long distance running as two Kenyan athletes, Wilson Kipsang and Mary Keitany won big at the 44th New York City Marathon. Kipsang, a former world-record holder, won the men’s title, completing the race in just 2 hours 10 minutes and 59 seconds to collect the $100,000 payout for coming in first place. The 32-year-old athlete also won the $500,000 prize after taking the World Marathon Majors title from countryman Dennis Kimetto, who won at the 2014 Berlin Marathon in September in 2 hours 2 minutes and 57 seconds, breaking Kipsang’s old world record by 26 seconds. The New York City Marathon win is the third victory in a row for Kipsang, who according to the Associated Press, has now garnered record-setting victories in Berlin (2013), London (2014), and New York (2014) within a 13-month span becoming the first man to do so.
