WWF Statement on Failure of Pebble Mine Financing Deal Today it was announced that First Quantum Minerals and Northern Dynasty Minerals have been unable to reach agreement on a financing deal for the proposed Pebble Mine project near Alaska's Bristol Bay. In response, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) released the following statement from Carter Roberts, President and CEO: “The Pebble Mine is a risky venture that would devastate the world’s largest sockeye salmon fishery. It also endangers thousands of local jobs, wildlife, and more than a dozen Alaska native tribes. “In addition to the environmental concerns, the Pebble Mine also poses risks to any company’s reputation, and by extension its returns. Given these many concerns, it’s no surprise that the financing deal fell apart. “More work remains to put an end to this project. Northern Dynasty Minerals still has a permit application pending before the U.S. Army Corps. But after 14 years of efforts to develop the Pebble Mine, we hope this will mark the beginning of the end.”
