Today is Etsy’s 13th birthday – a big moment for any young adult, us included! To celebrate, from today through June 22, we’re hosting a birthday sales event – so bring on the party hats, custom cake toppers, and of course the only-on-Etsy find of “personalized confetti”.  It’s an opportunity for us to celebrate our community of buyers and sellers who make Etsy special.   A lot has changed since 2005.  We’ve gone from $1 million in GMS to $3.25 billion*, 9,000 sellers to 2 million**, 22,000 active buyers to 34.7 million** and in recent quarters we’ve seen over a billion visits to etsy.com.  We thank the Etsy community for trends that have stood the test of time – unicorns, druzy jewelry, and even steampunk, which now yields over 400,000 search results, emerged on our platform 13 years ago. When we launched, some of the most popular trends were animal themed like “birds” (put a bird on it, remember?), “woodland animals,” and “feather headbands.”  FluxProductions, one of Etsy’s first sellers, went from selling a “sleeveless green t-shirt with a flock of birds printed across the front,” which he silkscreened in his bedroom, to now selling over 1,000 leather goods in his Brooklyn based shop. BoyGirlParty, an award winning illustrator, has had over 35,000 sales since her first in 2005 which was a notecard set similar to the one she still sells today in her shop of whimsical woodland gifts.    We are excited to spotlight some of the unique items available on Etsy.
