When Yara Shahidi was a little girl, she ran out of history books to read at school. This was before she had starred opposite Eddie Murphy or Angelina Jolie, before her sitcom roles, when her show business career was limited to a few commercials and modelling gigs. She was six at the time. “I remember I was in one school programme where I finished all my history course material a month early,” she says. “So Mama got me a supplementary curriculum and started back with Mesopotamian history.
