Launched in January 2013, the free boiler grant scheme aims to replace old energy-consuming non-condensing boilers with modern condensing boilers that are energy efficient, to help homeowners lower their fuel bills. To qualify for the New Boiler Grant scheme, you have to be in receipt of specific benefits including pensioners on Pension Credit.

So, no matter where you live in the country, if you apply for the grant, you can have experts come to your home for survey within as little as 48 hours.

2. Universal credit- Are you currently in the receipt of universal credit? Well, then you could now qualify for boiler grant to replace your inefficient or broken boiler. For qualifying for the boiler grant, you must have earned at least $1250 in any month during the past one year and have a child under 16 who is in the receipt of DLA, a PIP etc.

3. Only homeowners and private tenants can apply- The free boiler scheme isn’t open to everyone unfortunately. Furthermore, only homeowners and private tenants can apply for the scheme. Tenants renting privately will need to get permission from their landlords first.

4. Quick process- Without a doubt, a crucial benefit of boiler grants is the fact that applying for and getting the grant is a quick process. From initial contact to the day of installation, the whole process could take around 2 to 3 months, depending on the company carrying out the boiler grant installation.

5. Replace condensing boilers- Previously, condensing boilers were not allowed to be replaced via Government’s free boiler scheme. However, the criteria have now changed which means that if you have a condensing boiler that is broken beyond repair, it can be replaced via the boiler grant.
