Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later is both one of the best contemporary zombie films, and the kickstarter of our contemporary zombie craze. That it also spawned a worthy sequel in 28 Weeks Later leaves no surprise there’s still want for a third film in the saga, with hope original writer Alex Garland and original director Boyle might return.
Though discussed for years, another bout of 28 Months Later buzz is here. IGN spoke to Garland, currently promoting his upcoming feature directorial debut, the sci-fi thriller Ex Machina, who said, “We’ve just started talking about it seriously. We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility.”
