Although she said last month she was interested in joining the Irish republican party Sinn Fein, Sinead O'Connor announced she won't become a formal member right now.
The singer broke the news in a candid Facebook post, in which she described meeting with members of the left-wing party and ultimately deciding she'd be more useful on the outside.
"They persuaded me that I'd be bored shitless, pretty much waiting for them to get into government before being able to help generate any national discussion on the issue of ending partition," she wrote of her meeting with the party's Sinead Nii Bhrion and Ken O'Connell. O'Connor notes she can express herself more freely "working alongside" the party, rather than as an official member.
