Brussels (dpa)- Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser is committed to ensuring that Germany and the other EU states make quick and non-bureaucratic help available to war refugees from Ukraine. "Today, for the first time, we have achieved unity among all the states of the European Union on the joint, rapid and non-bureaucratic admission of war refugees," Faeser said on Sunday after a meeting with her EU colleagues in Brussels. For the first time, the EU Commission intends to propose putting rules into force in the event of a "mass influx" of displaced persons. It will present a proposal on this at the next meeting of EU interior ministers this Thursday, said EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson on Sunday after a crisis meeting in Brussels. Specifically, displaced persons who come to the EU as a result of the Russian war against Ukraine could be granted immediate temporary protection with certain minimum standards, without having to embark on a long asylum procedure.
