I recently attended the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show, which is the most important event of its type in the world, with the mega-yacht crowd coming from every corner of the globe to ogle custom Italian boats that can run over a million dollars – a meter – or easily into nine figures for an entire huge ship. While these boast were docked in the marina, inside the exhibit halls and convention center were thousands of accessories for the motor yacht crowd, from winches to fine art to furniture to fishing gear. Especially prominent were vendors of “toys” for mega-yacht owners such as personal watercraft, tenders and motorized inflatables, motorized surfboards, and the one that stole the show, Triton Submarines.
