The Stedelijk Museum has appointed Beatrix Ruf as its new director, the Amsterdam institution announced today, 8 April. Ruf, who is German born, has led the Kunsthalle Zurich for the past 13 years. Ruff has been instrumental in putting Zurich on the contemporary art map. As well as organising a widely respected exhibition programme and ambitious commissions, by artists including Richard Prince, Sarah Lucas and Isa Genzken, she persuaded the wealthy Swiss city, and its many private collectors, to increase their support of the kunsthalle.
