In the late ’80s and early ’90s, Kevin Costner was one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood. Movies like Dances With Wolves, The Untouchables and Field of Dreams weren’t just box office hits, they were cultural milestones. Costner won two Oscars (for directing and starring in 1990′s Dances With Wolves) and seemed destined to keep churning out great movies.
Then things slowed way down. After the turn of the century, Costner struggled to find a hit. Movies like Swing Vote, Mr. Brooks and The Upside of Anger failed to resonate with audiences and it seemed like Costner might be on his way out.
