Ray LaMontagne notches his third No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart, and second leader on Folk Albums, with "Supernova," which opens with 40,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
"Supernova," LaMontagne's fifth studio set, ties for his best Billboard 200 rank (No. 3), matching the highs of 2008's "Gossip in the Grain" and 2010's "God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise" (credited to Ray LaMontagne and the Pariah Dogs). The new set was produced by the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach (and, accordingly, sports a more amped-up sound than much of LaMontagne's catalog). Its title track spends a third week at its No. 3 highpoint on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart.
