The production is a classic example of a film that stiffs in America but becomes an out-and-out smash overseas. The video game adaptation earned just $43m in America but tripled that on foreign shores, earning $66m alone in China. Considering the film cost $66m to produce, its $159m overseas take, for a $202m global cume, qualifies as a solid hit. We may not get a sequel, but it should be more-than-profitable in the long run.
