Molly Ringwald has been cast in the adaptation of popular 1980s cartoon Jem and the Holograms.
Directed by Jon M. Chu from a screenplay by Ryan Landels, the film will star Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples as Jem while Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau and Hayley Kiyoko will play the Holograms, as THR exclusively reported.
The film, based on the animated TV series that ran from 1985 to 1988, follows Jerrica Benton and her alter ego, Jem, who fronts the band the Holograms. It's being described as a modern take on the mysterious pop star, and will follow the band through Los Angeles on a music-driven adventure. Ryan Guzman will play Jem's love interest Rio, and Juliette Lewis also has a role in the film.
