In this age of “reboot and remake”, what’s most noticeable about the X-Men franchise is how it has maintained itself as a single (semi) coherent franchise over seven films and 14 years. And the 14 years in which it has existed, 2000-2014, has seen a stunning turn in how the film industry operates and how box office success is measured. I’m seeing the seventh film, X-Men: Days of Future Past tonight. So, purely for fun and whatever educational insights I can offer, let us dip our heads in the Pensieve (sorry, wrong franchise about a different school for gifted kids) and examine the box office history of 20th Century Fox's Fox's seemingly indestructible X-Men franchise.
