With the early box office success of Disney’s live-action adaptation of the villainous Maleficent currently making headlines, Sony Pictures Animation has decided to announce a nefarious anti-heroine of their own. Dipping into Greek mythology, the studio is developing an all-new take on the origin of Medusa, from a pitch by Todd Alcott and Holly Golden. Emmy winner Lauren Faust, who is responsible for the resurgence of My Little Pony (and related Bronies), will direct the take that “will be a clever, heartfelt animated comedy about a girl who’s having the ultimate bad hair day.” One imagines this version will leave out the rape by Poseidon and the beheading by Perseus, but who knows. (What’s next, Cerberus: The Big Three-Headed Dog, and Charon: The Friendly Neighborhood Ferryman?) Hit the jump for the full press release.
