Live at the Marquee has been going now since 2005, the year in which Cork was named a European Capital City of Culture. Held at the city’s redeveloped Docklands site on the banks of the river Lee just to the east of the city centre, the event has previously drawn big names such as Brian Wilson, Van Morrison, The Who and Eric Clapton. Each artist performs on one night and the festival takes place over the course of a month. This year the line-up contains a mixture of classic folk and rock, 90s grunge, and more contemporary artists. Cliff Richard opens the festival on 9 June and is followed by legendary figures including Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Tom Jones, Robert Plant and Neil Young. For those seeking more modern sounds then look out for performances from Elbow, Imelda May, Paolo Nutini and Biffy Clyro.
