Magmas & Plasmas, an exhibition of Antoine Dorotte’s zinc monographs and installations, explores the themes of movement and air. Using a traditional craft – zinc carving – and short films as a mode of artistic expression, the artist reinvents the craft’s techniques to explore popular as well as intellectual culture. The exhibition takes you into a dream-like, strange world that questions modern society and the idea of progress in a very personal way. For the exhibition, the artist transformed the building itself into an impressive mass of zinc that appears to move and change with reflexions: the 100 zinc plates placed on the structure and covered in octahedrons to recall Plato’s symbol for air and present the viewer with a giant kaleidoscope.
