In the month of July, Victoria Memorial Hall together with Rabindra Bharati Society will showcase the best of legendary Indian artist and writer, Abanindranath Tagore. The founder of Indian Society of Oriental Art and influential Bengal School of Art, Tagore paved the way for modern Indian painting. Abanindranath Tagore was one of the first painters to reject the traditional European academic manner of painting, promote traditional values and Indian nationalism, and to explore Indian cultural heritage in visual arts. Considered a father figure for both nationalist art and modernism, Abanindranath Tagore was also deeply interested in Chinese and Japanese calligraphic traditions, seeking to create a unique pan-Asian style.
