Universal Pictures Sets 'Pacific Rim' Sequel for April 2017 Release — firstshowing.net

After making a bigger splash overseas than it did in the domestic box office, the robot vs. monster blockbuster Pacific Rim is definitely getting a sequel. There's been buzz about the film with Guillermo del Toro recently revealing that he's working on the script with Zak Penn (The Avengers, Last Action Hero) with story insight from the original film's writer Travis Beacham, and now Universal has staked out a release date pretty far down the road. Legendary Pictures sent out an announcement video from del Toro himself (busy on Crimson Peak), and Universal simultaneously revealed the film's arrival April 7th, 2017.
