Aloe Blacc Is Music's Most Modest Soul Man — elle.com

Sitting in an empty amphitheater at Milwaukee’s Summerfest, mere hours before he hit the stage as an opener for Bruno Mars on the pop star’s “Moonshine Jungle Tour,” Aloe Blacc surveys the surroundings, takes it all in. “It’s definitely a thrill,” the singer says of performing to nearly 15,000 fans on a nightly basis. Over the past year, Blacc has established himself as a marquee performer in his own right, thanks in large part to his vocals on Avicii’s 2013 smash hit “Wake Me Up,” and his own charting single/Elton John homage “The Man." But the 35-year-old artist, who has slowly worked his way into the mainstream music consciousness with his folk-inflected brand of soul, is today quick to check his ego at the door. “Really my job here as an opening act is to get the audience hyped and happy to see Bruno when he comes on,” Blacc tells ELLE.com.
