FIFA on Wednesday suspended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) because of "government interference."
The suspension follows a warning from FIFA last week that foreshadowed this punishment.
The NFF was served with Nigerian high-court proceedings earlier this month following the team's round-of-16 exit from the World Cup after losing to France, the BBC reported on Sunday. This runs counter to FIFA regulations forbidding interference by governments or other third parties in national football association affairs, according to FIFA's announcement on Wednesday.
