It’s happening again. And, frankly, SZA doesn’t know what to make of it. It starts with an over-effusive fan backstage at the Pitchfork Music Festival: “Oh my god! You are so amazing!" she begins breathlessly. "Can I, like, get a picture with you?” The R&B singer, born Solana Rowe, politely obliges, but her face in the resulting photograph looks, well, befuddled. “It never gets less weird,” SZA says moments later, still trying to wrap her head around how a girl from St. Louis raised on heavy doses of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald now finds herself with diehard fans. “I went to American Apparel yesterday,” she says. “And everyone wanted to take a picture with me. I wasn’t prepared for that.”
