Kimbra has been writing music since she was eight years old. And sure, the now-24-year-old had a sizable following in her native Australia for a while there. But in 2012, when she hopped on "Somebody That I Used To Know" with her friend and fellow countryman Gotye, its safe to say lot more people began perking up their ears to her soothing voice. Theres a healthy kind of pressure that comes with a successful song like that, the singer says of releasing The Golden Echo, her first album since her guest spot on Gotyes smash single. She wasnt alone in her efforts: Kimbra recruited musician friends from John Legend to Muses Matt Bellamy and Omar Rodriguez of The Mars Volta to help her create the blissful, textural genre-collage that is her latest LP, due on August 19.
