As the way people watch TV changes, so must the way the Emmys honor those who make it possible.
At least, that's what the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is trying to do, according Seth R. Shapiro, one of two governors in the Academy's Interactive Media Peer Group, one of the fastest growing arms of the organization's 29 sectors.
"Every year, we have to go back and figure out what the Emmys are going to be for because, in the past, we would do things like have an Emmy for fiction or nonfiction or scripted and unscripted," Shapiro said. "And at this point, there's so much great work out there ... we really want to recognize work in social and work across platform and general user experience."
