On March 19, model Geena Rocero, revealed to an audience during her influential TED talks that she was transgender. It was the first time she had openly declared it. She had sex reassignment surgery at 19 and been living as a woman since 2001 when she moved to the United States to model. Her U.S. friends, colleagues–and even her model agent–had no idea she had transitioned, until she informed them earlier in the year, before the TED talk. Geena was interviewed by Glamour and discussed what it was like growing up transgender and why she chose to go public with the information.
