Richie Hawtin, the Canadian-born techno master whose trippy alter-ego Plastikman has melted minds for more than 20 years, is this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at the AIM Independent Music Awards.
The pioneering DJ, producer, record label owner will be feted at the independent music awards gala on Sept. 2 in London.
Hawtin’s quarter-century long career has “been characterized by a restless urge to push electronic music forward,” according to the AIM trade association, and he’s furthered his art through his techno imprints Plus 8 and Minus.
