An international team of astronomers has gotten its best look yet at the mighty collision of two galaxies long, long ago, using another galaxy as a cosmic magnifying glass.
You would imagine that two galaxies colliding with each other and sparking the creation of still more stars would be a cosmic event that would be easy to spot. But this collision took place when the was only half its current age, putting it far beyond the reach of even the most powerful of Earth’s telescopes – unless they get help.
