Rarely Seen Jellyfish Relative Caught on Camera : DNews — news.discovery.com

A crew from the Nautilus Live Expedition, which is spending several months mapping the topography of the sea floor off the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, got another surprise visitor in the Gulf, when its Hercules underwater camera spied a siphonophore -- a jellyfish-like class of marine life whose most well known species is probably the Portuguese man o' war -- drifting into view. Better still, the stunning creature, looking a bit like a sea floor duster, made its appearance during a live broadcast, which the expedition's website maintains during the months of its research. So viewers got the same real-time surprise as did the scientists watching the footage.
