‘Clamdigger’ (1972) is being sold by the daughters of Lisa de Kooning, who inherited the scultpure from her father when he died in 1997. From The Times: “It is a depiction of the artist himself,” said Brett Gorvy, Christie’s worldwide chairman of postwar and contemporary art. “It is the closest de Kooning came to a self-portrait and was created specifically at a time when he was pushing the boundaries.” A Christie’s spokeswoman said the work is expected to sell for between $25 million and $35 million.
