Civilization is a franchise built to stand the test of time, but that doesn't mean every game in the series makes a lasting impression. The latest entry, Civilization: Beyond Earth, makes for a promising start, even if it’s not as fleshed out as its predecessors were at launch.
In Beyond Earth, you're taken forward in time to a new world colonized by settlers from a broken Earth, damaged by something called "The Great Mistake." It’s never revealed exactly what went wrong on Earth, but you could easily plug in any number of Civilization games as the back story; Beyond Earth basically picks up where Civilization V’s science victory ending leaves off.
