CHVRCHES mix psychedelics and anime in video for "Under The Tide" -- watch — consequenceofsound.net

As noted earlier this week, CHVRCHES have contributed a new song, “Get Away”, to a reworked soundtrack of the Ryan Gosling film Drive. Today, the Glaswegian trio lend their brand of synthpop to another form of cinema as they unveil a video for “Under The Tide”, from their excellent debut album, The Bones of What You Believe. Here, director Sing J. Lee pairs inspired performance shots from band member Martin Doherty with anime footage, including clips of a giant spaceship comprised entirely of laser lights and the band itself as made from tiny, twinkling stars. It doesn’t have quite the same goofy, feel-good vibe of Pharrell’s recent foray into anime, but the mix of psychedelic visuals and romantic subplot enhance this already surging ballad. Plus, one character totally shoots balls of lasers and it’s super awesome.
