After a celebrated career that’s spanned four decades, produced a dozen iconic characters, and led to three Oscar nominations and one win, Kathy Bates has her pick of roles. But there is one thing she looks for in all the projects she takes on: a nice location. “That’s a big part of it,” Bates told BuzzFeed News, with a laugh, in her trailer during an exclusive set visit in August. “I’ve been on the road for so long. When I look at something now, I want it to be fun and I want to have a nice experience because, at my age, what are you going to do? Sit home and watch your old movies? If you make good memories with your work, that’s what you take with you. It’s not necessarily what you did, even though you’re proud of that too. It’s the actual doing of it that’s important. If it’s not fun, then you don’t want to do it anymore.”
