Google's Google's Larry Page has got one thing absolutely correct in his thinking, that the Europe of the future would be a great deal richer if it the Europe of today were more like Silicon Valley. Constantly on the search for the next big thing, looking to disrupt the cozy arrangements and monopolies of today with better technology. That’s most certainly true. However, the problem is that for much of Europe those cosy arrangements are, well, cozy, and they don’t particularly want to have them disrupted. It’s not particularly a problem with the European Union, or the European Commission itself (although the attitude can be found there), it’s something endemic to many sectors of many European economies.
