It's a little hard to believe that German production duo Booka Shade, a.k.a. Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, used to be in a synth-pop duo called Planet Claire in the early '90s before making the trance-ition to more of a club-focused drive. Within their darkly throbbing 4/4 are flashes of their old pop sensibilities in melodies or vocal cues, or bits of experimentation like the space disco bop that opens "Line of Fire," the title track off their new EP (due Nov. 10 on Beatport and Dec. 5 on iTunes via Embassy One/Baufield).
