This week, The Antlers and Tinariwen will share the stage at Brooklyn’s ANTI-Thesis, a concert event curated by producer Daniel Lanois (Brian Eno, U2) celebrating the diverse Epitaph imprint. To mark the occasion, Antlers frontman Peter Silberman has reworked “Toumast Tincha”, the opening track on Tinariwen’s latest album, Emmaar.
Here, Silberman blankets the original Desert blues number in a dreamy, almost aqueous-like, sheen — a lovely, slow-burning touch often heard on most Antlers albums, including this year’s Familiars. Although Tinariwen’s influence can still be felt throughout, the group’s nomadic spirit sounds as though its left the deserts of Mali for some ethereal universe far, far away.
