E-book pricing dispute bad for everyone but consumers — mashable.com

Amazon and Hachette have resolved a months-long conflict that had been closely watched as a dispute that would indicate the future of the publishing industry. The core of the disagreement reportedly centered on e-book pricing. Amazon wanted $9.99. Hachette (and other publishers) thinks that undervalues e-books. The details of the deal are still confidential, but Hachette's CEO sent a letter to authors indicating that the publisher still has control over its pricing. But don't expect the $9.99 e-book to disappear. Amazon, meanwhile will offer "better terms" for lower prices.
