In the first and second tribute installments, I detailed meetings with the late great bassist Jack Bruce, and drummer Ginger Baker, as research for a story in 1997 about why Cream hadn’t reunited. After the article appeared in Delta Sky magazine (June 1997), things on the Cream front went quiet for a while. I stayed in touch with Jack, mainly through his wife Margrit Seyffer, who let me know from time to time how the reunion was progressing. Jack was in ill health from past bouts with heroin and alcohol, and in 2003 was given a new liver. He, more than any of the band members, needed a reunion to help pay for his medical expenses.
