Three branches of the Coppola clan gathered to celebrate the grand career of their patriarch, famed Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, on a rainy Monday night at London’s Bulgari hotel. “Monday is funday!” quipped Coppola wearing a gray suit with a watermelon tie and odd socks (his take on formal attire), and as guests circulated in the Bulgari ballroom, it certainly felt as though the Christmas season were kicking off. The reception and dinner hosted by Indian impresario Pablo Ganguli, the founder of the global cultural diplomacy forum, Liberatum, started with a screening of Gia Coppola’s directorial feature film debut, Palo Alto. Friends from actor Jeremy Irons (who was determined to fix Coppola’s broken watch by candlelight) to fellow director Terry Gilliam; model Eva Herzigova, wearing Céline trousers and a tailored Balenciaga tuxedo; and Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, clad in a leather and tweed Louis Vuitton dress, completed the charismatic crowd.
