As the purveyors of nerdy indie rock, threads of Weezer’s music reverberate throughout today’s indie rock scene. Rivers Cuomo and co. seem to be well aware of their “paternal” status, and they’re certainly not inclined to linking up with the youngsters they helped inspire. First they tapped Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino for a guest spot on Everything Will Be Alright In The End, and last night, Cuomo was spotted collaborating with the lads of Real Estate. During Tuesday’s headlining gig at Los Angeles’ Belasco Theater, part of Red Bull Select’s 30 Days in LA festival, the New Jersey rockers were fronted by Cuomo on an inspired rendition of “No Other One”. Together, they transformed the Pinkerton standout from a power-pop ballad into some sweeping, jam band anthem.
