These are the instructions I repeated to myself and my body, over and over, as I attempted to scale my first-ever frozen waterfall. Not a rock climber, other than lessons about 10 or more years ago, and not really a winter sports enthusiast – I live in Florida, after all – I put myself outside of my comfort zone and gave ice climbing a shot. Ice climbing debuted in the USA in the late 1960s, and its popularity has been on the climb (pun intended!) ever since with the increased technology in equipment. One of the best things about ice climbing is that it's as accessible to novices as it is to experienced climbers.
