Capezzana, Barco Reale di Carmignano DOC 2011 $15
These days Italy abounds with a mass of exciting wine discoveries at bargain prices. It seems every week I come across a new gem, the latest being this pretty red from Carmignano, a small commune and DOCG of just 110 ha, 20 K’s north-west of Florence.
Wine has been made here since Etruscan times, and long before the appearance of Super Tuscans in the 1970′s, winemakers in Carmignano have been blending Cabernet Sauvignon – known in the region as uva Francesca, the French grape – with the traditional Tuscan varietal, Sangiovese.
