For every person I know who completely adored The Goldfinch – an epic tale of one boy and his stolen painting - there is another who gave up on it after a couple of hundred pages because it just didn’t hold their interest. I got a lot further than 200 pages (a little over 600!) but that was after putting it down, reading another book, returning to it and then having something of an epiphany.  Reading should not be quite this difficult. You should want to pick that book up, not dread it.
