"Wild" had an impressive opening weekend at the box office with a $30,000 per-screen average and a $630,000 gross in 21 theaters. The movie, based on Portland writer Cheryl Strayed's memoir and starring Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern, is playing in seven markets, including New York and Los Angeles, and will expand to 13 more -- including Portland -- and about 100 theaters on Dec. 12. The movie opens at Cinema 21 and Bridgeport Village on Dec. 12. An invitation-only premiere with a red carpet begins at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at Cinema 21. Witherspoon and Dern are scheduled to attend.
