A marble head believed to be Jeanne de Bourbon, c 1370-80
A 14th-century marble head of a woman, believed to be Jeanne de Bourbon, the wife of King Charles V of France, will be the top lot in a sale of high medieval objects and furniture at the Paris auction house Piasa on 11 December.
The head, with a braided hairstyle typical of the period, has been attributed to the Flemish sculptor Jean de Liège or his workshop, says Laurence Fligny, an expert at the auction house. The sculptor is known to have worked in Paris as a maker of tombs and funerary monuments.
