Jolla is a small voice in the mobile world, but over the past year the Finnish startup has been shouting its message of a crowd-powered, truly open-source operating system. This past month, it became clear that some people are starting to listen, and over ten thousand of them were also willing to back the concept with their own cash.
This week, Jolla wrapped up an Indiegogo campaign for its first tablet, raising almost two million dollars and nearly five times its relatively modest $380,000 goal. The tablet follows the launch of the Jolla smartphone earlier this year, which is available primarily in Europe. The hardware for both won’t blow anyone’s socks off, but they are competitive — the Jolla tablet is quad-core with 2 GB RAM and a 7.9-inch display.
