EXO and 2NE1 end their remarkable 2014 years on a high note as the sole K-pop acts to rank on Billboard's year-end World Album Artists chart. Placing at Nos. 7 and 9 respectively, the groups are K-pop's best ranking ever on the chart after G-Dragon and SHINee became the first acts to earn entries last year.
In May this year, EXO broke into their two splinter groups of EXO-K and EXO-M to release their Overdose EPs with the former outfit promoting the EP in Korean and the latter in Chinese. (Billboard counted all of EXO-K and EXO-M sales as EXO). The Korean version soared into the Billboard 200 at No. 126 while the Chinese peaked at No. 8 on Heatseekers Albums. EXO-K's feat made for the best chart position to date for any K-pop boy band.
